Sometimes, our guests enquire about the plaque designating our hotel as a “Bottega Storica Trentina” and wonder what it means.
So, what exactly is a “bottega storica trentina”?
In recent years, Trentino has launched several initiatives to preserve historical activities, thereby safeguarding the authenticity of the local region, particularly at an artisanal and commercial level. This led to the establishment of the Provincial Register of Historic Shops and Businesses, which includes businesses (such as retail shops, artisanal enterprises, and public food and drink establishments) that have been operating from the same premises and within the same sector for at least 50 years.
But that’s not all: to be acknowledged as a historic shop or business in Trentino, entities must not only have maintained the original characteristics of their businesses, but must also possess significant historical, cultural, artistic, architectural, or cultural heritage that contributes to the local culture. In short, being designated as a “bottega storica trentina” is a distinction reserved for a few select establishments!
Camping Albergo Casavecchia
A century ago, here at Casavecchia, weary travellers would pause to rest their horses before stepping foot in our great-grandparents’ inn to dine, drink, and recharge before continuing their journey to the Giudicarie. The many generations of the Merli family have been managing Casavecchia since 1921 – from a modest inn to a quaint hotel, and eventually to a three-story establishment with an adjoining campsite, replacing the fields once tended by our grandparents. It’s fair to say: Casavecchia truly merits the distinction of its label as a Bottega Storica Trentina!
